The church is slightly less than a mile from the later family home, Stordon Grange, not far to walk across the fields on Sundays for the family of stalwart men
and fair maidens and their parents Thomas and Jane Boultbee (See also Chapter VI).
The church is of modest size with no tower. The nave and chancel are in one and were generally of the 14th century Decorated period. The original chancel was lengthened in 1860 or 1861 and the floor raised thus concealing the Boultbee gravestones. At the same time the whole was extensively restored.
The churchyard has been tidied and many headstones are now placed against surrounding walls. The second William's stone was seen in 1986, but could not be found in 1991.
